New accountant - Job search strategies?

I am in the middle of a career change. I have just completed 24 credit
hours in accounting (3.8 GPA), I am now ready to search for a job in
accounting. I do not have a 4-year degree (I am pursuing a BS/BA in
Business), so that may be an issue. I am transitioning from the travel
industry (I also have IT exerience) which, in my opinion, is not worth
remaining in. I am willing to relocate, even for an entry level
position. So, my question is, where should I begin? Sounds real
basic, but I have been having trouble finding a position that does not
require either a 4-year degree or 1-2 years experience. It will take a
couple more years for me to complete my degree (part-time student), and
I cannot get experience without a job. I am just looking for pointer
where to look and who may be a bit flexible about the lack of a degree
or experience.

If you are art a college or other institution, ask the professors. They
often know of, or get approached about openings in the community. Another
option might be a temp agency. The placements might be very temporary (a
few days or weeks) to something a little longer-term temporary - like
filling for someone on maternity leave (a couple of months). At least some
experience is coming your way. Also, the temp agency might be able to toss
you a few other job types in the meantime.

Next would be to hit all the large employers in your area. Don't wait on a
position to appear in the paper. Usually by then it's too late.
